Tommy was born on August 21, 1946 in Pampa to Edward and Elizabeth Phillips. He was raised in Dumas, where he met and married his wife, Julia on November 30, 1962. She preceded him in death in 2008. They moved to Amarillo around 1970 and Tommy began employment with Assarco. He then was employed with Triangle Ditching for many years before working for Atmos Energy, retiring after 30 years of employment.
Tommy enjoyed riding Harleys when he was able and was talented in crafting belts and wallets from leather. He was a John Wayne fan and loved to watch old western movies. He was a history buff and had a great collection of antiques, coins and guns. Most of all, Tommy was a loving husband, father and granddaddy to his family.
He is survived by his 4 children, Debbie Melendez and husband Manuel, Brian Phillips, Lisa Tellez and husband Luis and Michael Phillips, all of Amarillo; 9 grandchildren, Justin Phillips, Briana Sheppard, Jordan Melendez, Ciarra Melendez, Kaleigh Phillips, Bryce Phillips, Marck Tellez, Khristian Phillips and Hunter Phillips and 3 great grandchildren, Bonnie Phillips, Kylee Melendez and Dezmen Sheppard
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Lena Phillips and Kathy Black and his wife Julia Phillips.
