Vernyce was born on May 31, 1933 in Burwell, Nebraska, to Vernon and Ardyce Dye. She was raised in Nebraska, graduating with Honors from O'Neill High School in 1951. She moved to Amarillo in 1952, where she married Ted Alm on June 7, 1952. Vernyce worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for over 35 years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of the Communication Workers of America, where she served as a Union Steward.
In her free time, Vernyce enjoyed listening to and collecting classical works, show tunes, opera and gospel music. She was an avid reader and amassed a substantial collection of 2000+ books, including American historical collections, novels, poetry and humor.
Vernyce is survived by her husband, Ted Alm of Amarillo; 2 daughters, Lucy Christiansen and husband Les of Fort Worth and Sandy Pace and husband Doyle of Amarillo; her brother, Roger Dye and wife Carmen of Lubbock; and her grandchildren and great grandchildren as listed: Aaron Christiansen, wife Emily and their daughter, Karis Christiansen; Daniel Christiansen and his son, Maxwell Christiansen; Brian Thomas Reasoner, wife Chelsea and daughter Kennedi Sage; Melissa Ann Johnson, husband Franklin and children Sean Anthony Reasoner, Ashlin Kamil Johnson, Byron Jaleel Laury, Noah Makai Mornes & Amaya Dyani Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Keo Bess Dye and her grandson, Joseph Miguel Reasoner.
