Viola Mae Green

March 18, 1927 — March 23, 2014

Viola Mae Green, 87, of Amarillo, Texas, went to be with her Lord on March 23, 2014. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday March 26, 2014 at Arden Road Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Bigham officiating. Graveside services will follow at Tulia in Rosehill Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Mae was born in Clovis, New Mexico on March 18, 1927 to the late Edwin and Florence Baker. She attended school in Swinson, Texas. As a teenager, she wrote letters to her friend's brother, a soldier in World War II. A short time later, that soldier became her husband and the love of her life. Mae was married to Floyd Melvin Green on December 15, 1945 in Spur, Texas. Floyd and Mae spent their married life farming and raising their four children. Floyd preceded her in death in 1962. In 1974, she moved from Tulia, Texas to Amarillo. She loved to spend time outdoors, fishing and enjoying the lake. Mae usually spent her summers travelling with family. The joy of her life was spending time with her family and friends. Mae was very active in church over the years teaching Sunday school and working with children. She will always be remembered as a faithful woman of God who was a wonderful wife, mother and granny. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, a brother, a son, and a great granddaughter. She is survived by three sons, Melvin Green and wife Bethy of Missouri, Earl Green and wife Verna of Oklahoma, Bill Green and wife Eden of Dalhart; a daughter Florence Trinh and husband Toan of Amarillo; 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson.
