Virginia Lee Clark McCommon, 90 of Amarillo, passed away from this life to be with the Lord, Thursday, November 20, 2014.Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Monday, November 24, 2014 at Hillside Christian Church West Campus, 6100 Soncy, with Jerry Bell, Chaplain, at Ware Living Center and Pastor Greg Corona assisting. Burial will follow at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are through Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.Virginia was born on September 10, 1924 in Shamrock, Ok., to Ernest P. and Sarah Teague Baldwin. She grew up in Hugo, Ok., where she was a member of the Methodist Church and sang in the choir. Virginia met her husband, Donavon W. Clark through Harold "Mac" McCommon and Kay Burge. The two couples had a double wedding on July 5, 1941 in Antlers, Ok. Virginia's husband, T/Sgt. Donavon W. Clark, was career Air Force and the family lived in Victoria, Tx., Coffeyville, Kansas, Anchorage, AK., Spokane, Wash. And Clovis, NM.Virginia was a long distance operator for Bell Telephone and AT&T starting in 1944 with 31 years of service and retired in August of 1987. She was also Chief Operator for Base Communications at Amarillo Air Force Base. After Donavon's passing in 1986, Virginia married Harold "Mac" McCommon on March 21, 1992, at Paramount Terrace Christian Church. They lived in Bossier City, La. until Mac's passing in June, 2001. Virginia moved back to her home in Amarillo in August, 2001. She had been a resident of Ware Living Center since June, 2008 until her death.She was a member of Hillside Christian Church and a life member of Telephone Pioneers of America and Communication Workers of America.Virginia loved to travel, dance, watch movies and spending time with her family. Virginia was a wonderful mother who gave so much of herself to family and friends. She will be greatly missed.She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Agnes Jordan and Billie Dare Gaar, a brother, George Baldwin and great grandson, Jack Duncan Rhodes.Survivors include a daughter, Cherry Clark Beasley of Amarillo, a son, Michael "Randy" Clark of Albuquerque, NM, granddaughter, Natalie Rhodes and husband Douglas of Amarillo. Grandsons, Michael Clark and wife Janeen and Christopher Clark and wife Angela of Albuquerque, NM. Five great grandchildren, Madeline Rhodes of Amarillo, Matthew Clark, Adam Clark, Candice Carrasco and husband John and Alexandra Clark all of Albuquerque, NM. Three great great grandchildren all of Albuquerque, NM.Special thanks to the care givers in The Village and Cherry II at the Ware Living Center for the loving care that was given to Virginia.The family will have a visitation on Sunday, Nov. 23, from 4-6 PM at Cox Funeral Home.The family suggests memorials be sent to The Hope and Healing Place (Jack Duncan Rhodes Foundation), 1721 S. Tyler, Amarillo, Tx. 79109.
