Virginia "Ginger" Jones Gatlin

May 16, 1940 — September 8, 2025

Amarillo

Virginia “Ginger” Jones Gatlin, 85, of Amarillo, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2025. Celebration of Life Services will be 10:00 AM Monday, September 15th at Paramount Baptist Church, 3801 S. Western St. with Pastor Victor Miller officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery.

Ginger was born May 16, 1940 in Amarillo, Texas to Harold and Jane Marshall. She graduated from Amarillo High School and went on to study Nursing at Hardin-Simmons University, earning a bachelor degree in Nursing. She worked for Dr. Nichols and BSA Home Healthcare. Ginger grew up at First Baptist Church and spent many years there, where she taught Sunday school and worked in the nursery. She has been a member of Paramount Baptist Church for the last 25 years, many of which she spent working with the Grief Share Ministry.

In her spare time, Ginger enjoyed doing counted cross-stitch as well as reading. She loved going to the mountains and spending time with family, especially the grandkids and great-grandkids. She volunteered at the VA during her first husband’s illness, and offered aid and a listening ear to many families. Ginger was a kind-hearted person and she didn’t believe in the term ‘in-laws’. She just treated everyone as if they were her own.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Al Jones; and her brother, James Marshall.

Survivors include her husband, Carrol Gatlin; her sister, Carol Bratton of Stephenville and her four children; her children, Mark and Melodie Young of Flower Mound, Christie Jones of Amarillo, and Jerry and Dawn Jones of Amarillo; her grandchildren, Kerri and Chris Jones, Emily and Matt Mitchell, Aleigh and Marcus Beckley, Katelyn Young and fiancé Gregory Cooper, and Cody Jones and fiancée Kaitlyn Aguilar; and her great-grandchildren, Jack Jones, Jaydon Jones and Aurora Mitchell.

The family suggests memorial donations may be made to Cowboy Church of Erath County, Scholarship Fund, PO Box 371, Stephenville, TX 76401.
