Walter was born on December 10, 1962 in Amarillo to Walter A. and Marilyn K. Appelhof Lundberg. He was raised in Amarillo, graduating from Caprock High School in 1981. There, Walter was a star quarterback, leading his team to 3-5A Allstar Team as well as leading his baseball team to be 3-4A District Champions. After high school, he attended Amarillo College, where he obtained his diesel mechanics certification. He then moved to Dallas, where he worked for Ryder Trucking and then Penske Trucking, returning to Amarillo after retirement in 2010. Walter enjoyed the outdoors, cooking out with friends and family and taking fishing trips. He was an avid Los Angeles Raiders fan as well as an avid Texas Rangers fan.
Survivors include two sisters, Lisa Lundberg and companion, Danny Paredes and Kathy Lundberg, both of Amarillo; uncles and aunts, John and Donna Lundberg of Klamath Falls, OR, David and Jan Lundberg of Amarillo, Ann Sigelman of Watertown, SD, James Appelhof of St. Louis Park, MN; Michael Appelhof of Yankton, SD; nieces and nephews, Michael Holt, Jennifer Debault, Matthew Mulherin, all of Amarillo, and Sgt. Zachary Lundberg of Alaska; great nieces and nephews, Sierra Jimenez, Noah Holt, Tyler Yarbrough, Cade Turner, Deklan Lundberg, Dallen Mulherin, and Walter Major Lundberg, Everitt Mulherin; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a great-nephew, Michael Peyton Lundberg-Holt.
