Walton "Skeeter" Whatley

Walton "Skeeter" Whatley, 96, of Amarillo passed away Friday, May 25, 2018. Skeeter was born on April 1, 1922 in Bokchito, OK to Brag and Marie Whatley. He married the love of his life Dortha Maupin-Whatley in 1945. Skeeter was a cook in the Navy and was famous for his hot sauce and jellies. He enjoyed playing dominos with his best friend, Roy Claudrick and watching old western movies. He loved to go fishing with his grandson, Shelby. He will be greatly missed. Skeeter is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dortha Maupin-Whatley; one brother; five sisters; and one grandson, Kyle Burt. Survivors include, one daughter Sherlene Hayes and husband Jerry of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Stephanie Swindell and husband Victor of Amarillo, Lisa Hayes-Burt of Amarillo, Austin Hayes and wife Jeanna of Vega, Amber McGurren and husband Marc of Fort Worth; eight great grandchildren, Shelby Swindell, Sawyer Beth Swindell, Justin Hayes, Daelee Hayes, Maci Johnson, Hayes Johnson, Andie McGurren and Ridley Hayes-Burt.
