Wanda Ann (Hansard) Richards, 79, passed away surrounded by her family on June 24, 2017 in Amarillo, Texas. She was born to the late Wayne and Eva (Marshall) Hansard in Goodnight, Texas on September 4, 1937.
While raising her 3 children, Wanda was a foster parent, she volunteered for Meals on Wheels and taught Sunday school to children at Bolton Street Baptist Church. She was the first Hedley Cotton Queen in 1952. She operated her own beauty shop in Amarillo before serving with the Potter County Sheriff Department as a deputy and bailiff until retirement. For several years, Wanda lived in Maui, Hawaii. She enjoyed her time in Maui and made many lifelong friends there.
She is survived by her husband, Curtis Richards, her son Rodney Richards, and her daughter Sheree Keil, all residents of Amarillo. She is also survived by her brothers Wendell Hansard of Centerville, TX, Don Hansard of Derby, KS and sisters Vinona Bennett of Amarillo, TX, Glenda Cook of Portales, NM, Pat Ruddy of Hot Springs, AR and Barbara Stiles of Maui, HI. Granddaughters Melanie Richards of Portland, OR, Deban Keil of Dallas, TX and Tori Richards of San Antonio, TX. There are many nieces and nephews who loved and cherished their Aunt Wanda.
She was preceded in death by her second son, Randy Richards.
The family suggests Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Rowe Cemetery in Hedley, Texas. Her memory will live forever in our hearts.
