Wanda Winton Mason

August 30, 1925 — March 8, 2015

Wanda Winton Mason, 89, of Amarillo died Sunday, March 8, 2015. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Howard K. Batson officiating. Private family burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Wanda was born Aug. 30, 1925, in Welch, Okla., to Thomas and Grace Winton. She was the sixth of nine children. She married Donald H. Mason in June of 1947 in Durant. They visited Amarillo on their honeymoon and made it their home. She had a great heart for her Lord, her family as well as her Church. She was a member of First Baptist for more than 65 years. She along with her husband served as directors in young adult II and then adult 5 Sunday school departments for more than 50 years. They made it a priority to make their Lord and their Church the center of their family life. Wanda was active in WMU and was able to travel all over the world with her husband spreading the news of their Lord and savior. She had a great love for volunteering and spent many years as a Pink Lady auxiliary volunteer at Baptist St. Anthony's Hospital. She was a homemaker and it was always important for her home to be open to family and friends, where she would cook, laugh, encourage others and share the gospel. The family would like to offer a sincere thanks to the staff of the Village at Ware Memorial for the wonderful love and care that they extended to their mother and family. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Pib and Thelma; three brothers, Toad, Alec and Ernest; and a son-in-law, Scott Leiding. Survivors include her husband, Donald H. Mason of Amarillo; a son, Donny Mason and wife Lisa of Amarillo; four daughters, Betsy Mayse and husband Mike of Carrollton, Marilyn Standefer and husband Mike of Amarillo, Louann Bartlett and husband David of Boerne and Joy Leiding of Carrollton; two brothers, Marvin Winton of Amarillo and Gene Winton of Fairfax, Va.; a sister, Gracie Charlesworth of Overland Park, Kan.; 13 grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters. The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Missions Ministry. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
