Wayne Mcdonald

Wayne McDonald, 58, of Amarillo, passed away on January 4, 2025. Celebration of Life Services will be 2:00 PM Friday January 10, 2025 at Amarillo Church of Christ, 9999 S Western Street with Kerry Jones officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.

Wayne was born on March 25, 1966 in Plainview to David and Clorene McDonald. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1984 and attended TSTI where he obtained his associates degree. Wayne began working for Amarillo Independent school district in 1985 and devoted 39 years of service to the district. Wayne ended his legacy with AISD as the assistant director of maintenance. He married his sweetheart, Shellee Matthews on May 13, 2022.

Wayne enjoyed hunting, fishing and cooking. He could often be found working on the grill or smoking meat for his family; Wayne enjoyed a good BBQ competition as well. He and Shellee spent much of their down time at Lake Greenbelt. The Lake became a second home to Wayne and his friends became his chosen family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather; His grandchildren enjoyed spending every moment they could with their “Papa”. He was loved by many and will be missed.

Wayne was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dave and Othela McDonald, and Lil Gregorcyk.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Shellee McDonald; his daughter, Courtney Aliff and husband Christopher; his son, Colton McDonald and wife Julia; his parents, David and Clorene McDonald; five grandchildren, Austin, Landon, Mallex, Meah and Makenzee; his brother, Tim McDonald of Lubbock; two nephews, Sam Stark and Lee McDonald. Survivors also include a host of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, extended family and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Texas Oncology foundation, Panhandle Cancer Cure Foundation or 24hr’s in the Canyon.
