Wendell L. Sheffield, 83, of Amarillo, passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2023. Private family graveside services will be held at Llano Cemetery.
Wendell was born December 31, 1939 in Waco, Texas to Emory and Mary Sheffield. He married the love of his life, Regina Welborn, on December 27, 1958 in Waco, Texas. He made his career as a truck driver, and worked for Walmart for 27 years, retiring in 2012. During his tenure with Walmart, Wendell attained over 3 million safe miles. In his spare time, Wendell enjoyed camping and traveling, especially to Maui, Hawaii, where he and Regina made several trips. Wendell was a very hard worker, had a caring heart and was always willing to lend a hand to help someone. He loved his family and was also crazy about his dog, Little Man (aka “LD”).
Wendell was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Theresa Lee Smith; and a son-in-law, Floyd Adlong.
Survivors include his wife, Regina Sheffield; a daughter, Lisa Adlong-Ingels and husband David of Canyon; two sons, Russell Bryan Sheffield and wife Debbie, and William Emory “Bill” Sheffield and wife Cris all of Amarillo; seven grandchildren, Amanda Sheffield, Ryne Smith and wife Anne, Shea Adlong and wife Katie, Russell Sheffield, Michaela Montgomery, Lexie Sheffield and Connor Smith; six great-grandchildren, Bradley, Alexis, Tristan, Brayden, Maddie and Bristol; a niece, Sherry Couch; a nephew, Joe Welborn, Jr.; and two cousins, Jean Weekley and Elizabeth Sperberg.
