Wendy Lyn Lacina, age 51, walked through Heaven’s gates on May 23, 2023 at home with her family following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Wendy was born on February 5, 1972 to Marvin and Marian Walton. She grew up in Walden, CO, a close-knit ranching community. Wendy and her family were very involved in ranching, 4-H, school, sports and community activities. In 1989, the family moved to Carrizo Springs, TX where she graduated from high school. She attended Texas Tech University graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Ag Communications in 1994.
Wendy married Tony Lacina at the First Methodist Church in Canyon on February 4, 1995. She worked at the Texas Cattle Feeders Association, American Quarter Horse Association, and BSA Hospital.
Wendy then became a full-time devoted mom to True and Tyce. Her real passion for life was being a wife and mother. She was very involved in the day-to-day activities of her boys as well as her family’s business. Wendy loved going to the feed yard with Tony and especially enjoyed their multiple daily phone conversations.
Rodeo became a huge part of the family’s life and she spent hundreds of hours on the road and in the stands supporting her boys and many of their friends. She loved being involved in every aspect of this and made many dear friends who truly blessed her life as she called them her “rodeo family.”
Wendy did not just enjoy her life, she embraced every day with grace and love. As a faithful follower of Jesus, she showed grit and determination and was always thankful for every day. She strived for her actions and words to portray this in everything she did. She loved “her” people fiercely and enjoyed helping others be the best version of themselves. Wendy established a meaningful relationship with all caregivers during her treatment process.
Wendy is survived by: her husband, Tony, her sons, True and Tyce of Canyon, TX. Parents, Marvin and Marian Walton of Hereford, TX and sister, Laura Lee Ehlers (Brent) of Greeley, CO.
