William Bryan Dixon “Pop”, 94, of Amarillo, passed away on Monday August 12, 2024. Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday August 17, 2024 at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, 555 E. Hastings Ave. with Pastor Michael Carter and Pastor Mitch Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Friday August 16, at the funeral home. William was born on December 30, 1929 in Washington, NC to Charlie and Nettie Dixon. He served in the United States Air Force for twenty years retiring in 1968 as a Master Sergeant. Following his career in the Air Force, William worked for Bell Helicopter as an Aviation Mechanic and Engineer supervisor for 22 years before his final retirement. He married his sweetheart, Helen Barton on June 30, 1953 in Amarillo and together they celebrated over 71 years of marriage. Together they were blessed with and raised three beautiful daughters, Linda, Sharon, and Cindy.
He was a longtime member and inactive Deacon of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church here in Amarillo, where he and his wife have faithfully served for many years. He was a mentor and pillar in many lives, leading men and women to Christ. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
William was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Linda Dixon of Amarillo. Survivors include his wife, Helen Dixon of the home; two daughters, Sharon Cummins and her husband Danny and Cindy Smith and her husband Dallas; five grandchildren, Kyler Cummins and his wife Sarah, Jordan Gilley and her husband Lance, Taylor Dixon and his girlfriend Morgan Hovermale, Kelsey Benavidez and her husband Ronnie, and Jentry Smith and his fiancé Alexis Rios; seven great granddaughters, Kamilla, Brynn, Blakely, Dawsyn, Hudsyn, Clara, and Elliott. Survivors also include a host of extended family and close friends. His legacy will forever live on through everyone he knew.
