Willie Mae Lawrence

Willie Mae Lawrence, 87, of Amarillo passed away Sunday, December 8, 2019 surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 19, 2019 at the funeral home. The family will receive friends and loved ones for visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the day of the service. Willie was born November 25, 1932 in Tarrant County to Frank and Trudy (Pyles) Zumolt. At the age of three her father passed away and she was raised by her step-father. Willie’s step-father was a Minister of CME Methodist Church and her mother cooked at a local children’s day care. She married at the age of 17 and moved to Breckenridge, Texas. Willie worked as a private sitter and at The Ambassador Hotel for many years. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Willie will be remembered as a loving mom and sister. She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Trudy Zumolt; a son, Freddie Hughes; a daughter, Sharon Lawrence and a sister, Emma Ruth Williams. Willie is survived by two sons, Arthur and Jerry Hughes both of Amarillo; four daughters, Geneva Hughes-Adams of Amarillo, Linda Kay Shaffer of Amarillo, LaHoma Gipson of McKinney, TX and Carolyn Ruth Evans of Dallas, TX; a sister, Irene Moore of Arlington, TX; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
