Willie Smith

Willie Smith, 69, of Amarillo, passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2021. Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Saturday at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive, with Pastor Doug Gehm of Grace Church officiating.

Willie was born December 2, 1951 in Amarillo to Lee and Cleo Smith. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy, serving two tours in Vietnam. Willie married his wife Renee in 1991 in Amarillo. He worked in maintenance at Park Place Towers, Talmage, Plemons and Ware. He retired in 2013. In his spare time, Willie was a huge NASCAR fan and enjoyed collecting NASCAR collectibles. He was also a big Dallas Cowboys fan. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Willie was preceded in death by his parents and several siblings.

Survivors include his wife, Renee Smith; his step-sons, Joshua Amonson of Flagstaff, AZ, and Barry Amonson and fiancée, Liz Young of Amarillo; five step-grandchildren, Logan Amonson, Ian Amonson, Mirah Shepperd, Astyn Kennedy and Khairi Kennedy; his nephew, Les Bowels and wife Tina; and four great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials may be made to the Amarillo VAMC.
