Wilma Marie was born on October 20, 1934 in Carter County, OK to JB “Harvey” and Vernia Carson. She graduated from High School at Velma, OK in 1952. She married her high school sweetheart, Ray Pershall on December 13, 1952 in Velma, Ok. They had celebrated 62 years of marriage together when he died in 2015.
Wilma worked as a bookkeeper/Office Manager for various oilfield companies in Pampa, Lubbock, Farmington NM and Dumas as they raised their family.
Upon retirement, Ray and Wilma enjoyed traveling in their motorhome throughout the country, continuing to square dance any time they could, and owning a lake home at Lake Texoma. She enjoyed spending time with her family, never knowing a stranger wherever they stopped, organizing pot luck dinners with strangers (new friends) within minutes of parking their rig.
Wilma and Ray were always involved in church and volunteered any way they could. This included taking food, serving food at church functions, helping in VBS, decorating for functions, clean up, and support wherever needed. Most recently, she was involved with South Georgia Street Baptist in Amarillo until entering assisted living 5 years ago. Most importantly, Wilma knew our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was ready to go home. She desired for her family to know her Lord and join her in Heaven where she waits to greet them.
She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Wingate and husband Frank of Canyon; 2 sons, Richard Pershall and wife Suzanne of Canyon, TX and Tony Pershall and wife Sheila of Lafayette, LA; 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren(and one more on the way), and a great-great grandchild(and one more on the way). Her extended family included 4 nieces and 2 nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a younger sister Carmeta and her husband Don Stanley, an older infant brother, Billy Joe Carson who died before her birth.
Because of Wilma's passionate love of children, the family suggests memorial contributions be mailed to Buckner's Foster Care of Amarillo: 4000 Mays AVE, Amarillo, TX 79109.
