Amber Fountain Obituary

Amber Linnet Avara Fountain, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC, 42, of Amarillo, TX passed away on March 22, 2022. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.

Amber was born on September 6, 1979 in Amarillo to Rex and Leann Avara.  She grew up in Amarillo and excelled in education, she graduated a year early from Amarillo High School and AACAL in 1997 with a nursing assistant degree out of high school.  She started dance at a young age with the Lonestar Ballet and performed many years in the Nutcracker.  She beautifully played the cello and piano and enjoyed music, especially her husband Chip’s.

After high school she knew she wanted to help people through healthcare.  She graduated from Amarillo College with her Associates Degree in Nursing.  She worked at NWTH in the NICU where she met the love of her life Chip Fountain and they moved to Nashville, TN.  She acquired her Bachelors in Nursing from Aquinas College in 2006 and then went on to study for her Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Degree and received her Masters of Science in Nursing from Vanderbilt University in 2008.  Chip and Amber got married on June 18, 2009.  She went on to get her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Texas Tech University in 2020.  She has dedicated her life to helping so many patients.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Chip, and her father-in-law, Hayward Fountain; her grandparents John Avara and Leo and Joann Lightfoot; and her uncle Michael Lightfoot.

Amber is survived by her mother, Leann Fassauer and husband Larry; her father Rex Avara; grandmother Mary Ann Avara; sisters Summer White, Brittany Avara, Chas Massey, and Lindsay Fassauer; brother, Larry Fassauer; aunt Stacey Sisk; Uncle Jeff Avara; mother-in-law Barbara Fountain; and sister-in-law ‘s Shei Fuller and Teri Smith.  She was the “cool aunt” to many nieces and nephews and mom to so many adopted and loved rescue dogs.

Amber was a devoted Christian who lived her life with a servant’s heart.  Her beautiful journey here has brought her full circle.  We are comforted by the certainty that she is surrounded by loved ones, and the loving arms of our Heavenly Father.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Scottish Rite for Children, 2222 Welborn St., Dallas, TX 75219 or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
