Audrey Louise Wendel (Nana)

    Our Nana has returned to the loving arms of Jesus and her beloved Grandma Seale, due to heart failure. 

Audrey was born in Eastland, Texas to Cecil and Roy Maxwell. She married Allard (A.J.) Wendel on February 3, 1953 in Slaton, Texas, and they enjoyed almost 68 years of devotion to each other. They were the parents of four children, and later welcomed 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.  Mom and Dad enjoyed their early retirement years square dancing and traveling the U.S. in their RV. 

    Nana loved to talk, happily sharing stories with anyone nearby, accompanied by her big, irresistible laugh. Her generosity and compassion are legendary, and their home was welcoming to, and shared with many people over the years.  Nana unselfishly gave to those who needed help, frequently cooking delicious meals for, or slipping a bill or two to those "having a rough time."  We all knew not to compliment mom on something she had, because she would then insist on giving it to you. 

   Mom was  devoted mother and a wonderful Nana to her grandchildren, who adore her.  An accomplished seamstress, Mom always had sewing projects in progress, usually for one of her kids or grandkids. We all knew to watch out for sewing pins stuck in Nana's blouse when enjoying one of her hugs. She kept them handy there.  

   Mom had a deep, abiding faith in her Savior, Jesus Christ, and found comfort in that faith. 

   Our Nana will be sorely missed. Mom is survived by: husband, A.J. Wendel; four children, Greg Wendel (Tammy), Kim Stucki, Lisa Russell, Jana Thornton (Ed); Nine grandchildren, Erich Wendel, Zach Wendel, Jana Saba, Dan Stucki, Lara Bastos, Robert Russell, Teresa Russell, Kelly Thornton, and Phillip Thornton; and 8 great-grandchildren. 

   Due to pandemic restrictions, there will be no funeral. We will have a celebration of life for Mom later this year.
