Billy “Bill” Neil Schrader, 81 of Amarillo passed away on July 29, 2023. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Wednesday August 2, 2023 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive with John Love officiating. Burial will be held at Memory Garden Cemetery.
Bill was born May 25, 1942 in Paris, Texas to William and Velma Schrader. He attended Palo Duro High School and went to further his education at Texas Tech and graduated Amarillo College with an Associate’s degree in Applied Science. Bill worked at a Piggly Wiggly in his teens. He met and married the love of his life Mary Gamblin in Oklahoma on November 19, 1971. Together they shared 51 ½ years of marriage and two beautiful children, Erik and Amanda. In 1958, he help build and attended Grand Avenue Baptist Church for many years. Bill also attended Immanuel Baptist Church, Pleasant Valley Methodist Church, Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, working in the music ministry at all churches. He was also affiliated with Trinity Fellowship Church. Bill was a member of the “New Life Quartet” and traveled with his ministry.
Bill worked for Southwestern Public Service/ Xcel for 43 years as a journeyman lineman and radio technician before his retirement. Some would argue to say that he retired just to watch his grandkids sports events. He loved his family fiercely, especially his grandkids. Bill enjoyed his shop time, always piddling around and tinkering with things. He truly loved fishing, he would fish anytime he could. Bill was known for his whistling, Mary could always tell when he was coming around by hearing that infamous whistle. He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Velma Schrader.
Survivors include his wife, Mary of the home; his son, Erik Schrader and wife Heather of Amarillo; his daughter, Amanda Brown and husband Kenny; six grandchildren, Tyler Mickey (Nichole Vey); Eian Schrader; Kailee Schrader (Landon Bounsing); Kameron Brown; Kyron Brown; Sidnee Brown; and one great-grand daughter Blakely Rose. Survivors also include a host of other family members and dear friends.
