Carol Mulkey Obituary

Carol Ann Mulkey, 86, of Amarillo, passed away on Monday, November 1, 2021. Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Friday, November 5, 2021 at First Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Howard Batson officiating. The family will be receiving friends on Thursday November 4, 2021 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive from 5:00-7:00 PM. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.

Carol Ann was born October 8, 1935, in Amarillo to Dwight and Blanche Smith. She graduated from Amarillo High School. On February 13, 1954 Carol Ann married the love of her life, Jerrel Rex Mulkey at First Baptist Church. Carol Ann was always very active in the church. She was very strong in her faith, and a life-long member of First Baptist Church. Carol Ann volunteered in the church library, and where she taught Sunday School classes in different departments of the Youth Group during the years.

Carol Ann was an excellent seamstress. She had worked for many years for an interior decorator, where she would re-upholster furniture, make curtains, table cloths, and evening purses. Carol Ann even had made outfits for her children to wear. She was a wife and mother who loved her family deeply. She was very active in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives. Carol Ann would attend any function, party or any games that the kids had going. She loved the outdoors, the camping trips with her children when they were young. Carol Ann enjoyed reading books, the James Harriett Series to Christian literature. She was loved by many and will be dearly missed.

Carol Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Jerrel Rex; her son, Brent; her grandson, Tanner Mulkey; and her parents, Dwight and Blanche Smith; her brother, Douglas Smith; her sister, Laurel Miller.

Survivors include her two daughters; Michele Gibson and husband Gary of Conway, Arkansas; Ashley Odneal and husband Dennis of Houston; one son, Moody Mulkey and wife Denise of Amarillo; 11 grandchildren; Blair, Kari, Curtis, Abby, Libby, Brinkley, Maeson, Hayden, Laney, Laurel, Clifton; and her 9 great-grandchildren.
