David Pond Obituary

David Bruce “Papaw” Pond, 78, of Amarillo passed away on March 16th, 2024. Graveside services with Military honors will be at Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon, Texas on Friday, March 22nd, 2024 at 2:00 PM. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.

David was born on November 8, 1945 in Amarillo, Texas to Hubert Charles and Frances Ruth Pond. He graduated from Green Forest High School in Arkansas in 1964. David enlisted in the Marine Corp as soon as he graduated from high school and served four years during Vietnam.  He married Sharon Miller in 1968 and had two children, R.L. and Carol Pond. David later moved back to Canyon, Texas in 1978 where he began his employment with Asarco. He retired from his job in 2005.

David was a huge Arkansas Razorbacks and Dallas Cowboys Fan.  He enjoyed golfing, loved visiting family in Arkansas, and loved watching his grandchildren play sports. David attended every game he could and if he wasn’t at the ballpark, he was watching the games on his iPad.  He had the biggest heart and never said no to anyone that needed a helping hand. Later in life, David became a devoted Christian and would attend church every Sunday until his health took a turn and was unable to attend. He will be missed by everyone that knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Hubert Charles and Frances Ruth Pond; his four brothers, R.L., Charles, Bill, and Emmitt Pond; and his two sisters, Sammie Suggs and Ernestine Costley.

Survivors include his son, R.L. and wife Heather; daughter, Carol Pond all of Amarillo, Texas; his six grandchildren, Austin Ward; Brayden Pond; Ryan Whittington; Jaxton Pond; Presley Pond; and True Pond; his three great-grandchildren, Sebastian Pond; Sloane Pond and Jean Whittington; his sister Bobbie Bible of Harrison, Arkansas; three sister in laws, Mary Pond of Yuma Arizona; June Pond of Harrison Arkansas; Anita Beasley of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
