Dennis Lee Bush, 72, of Canyon, passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023. Celebration of Life Services will be 10:00 AM Friday, November 17, 2023 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive. Burial of ashes will take place in May Cemetery in May, Texas at a later date.
Dennis was born November 14, 1950 in Decatur, Texas to Doris and Jack Bush. He was the fifth of six kids. Following Jack’s death, Doris married Leland Jones, where Dennis gained three more siblings. Following graduation from Muleshoe High School, Dennis joined the U.S. Army in 1969 and served as a Hawk Missile Launcher Mechanic in Okinawa, Japan during the Vietnam War.
Dennis married Susan Robinson in September 1972 to which Jeremy Russell and Kevin “Jack” were born. Later, Dennis married Lisa Crunk and had Jenny Lee.
Dennis worked as a carpenter and millwright. He enjoyed woodworking and created many beautiful jewelry boxes, frames, and intricate inlays. He could pretty much make anything out of wood. Dennis held many jobs over the years including crane operator, mechanic, and practically every construction job one could have. These positions lead to many interesting job sites, including the opportunity to work on the pirate ship and teepees at Camp Don Harrington and being the foreman of the talk show set for the Oprah Winfrey Show at the Amarillo Little Theater. For approximately the last fifteen years of his career he worked on power plants, maintaining and repairing turbines and generators. He retired from Xcel Energy in 2017.
Dennis loved horses, shooting bows, and shooting guns. He taught all of his kids to ride and shoot, and later on enjoyed these hobbies with his grandchildren also. Spending time with his family, especially his grandkids, was one of his favorite things to do. Dennis came from a musical family and was a talented guitar and piano player. Dennis was an avid reader and loved watching old westerns and true crime shows. We are convinced his favorite past time was stirring up trouble, sitting back and laughing.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Doris and Jack Bush and Leland Jones; his brothers, Ronnie Bush and Jake Bush; and his sister, Jimmie Nell Parker.
Dennis is survived by two sons, Jeremy Bush and wife Rachael, and Jack Bush and wife Kim; a daughter Jenny Bush; six grandkids, Molly, Hannah, Hagen, Brayden, Ethan and Eric; one great-grandson, Slater; four sisters, Jackie Collins, Doris Jean Berquist, Debbie (Scott) Scheller and Brenda Mann; a brother Jody (Linda) Jones; as well as many nieces and nephews; and special extended family, Amanda, Brandon, David, Elizabeth and Payton Motes.
