Deryl Ray Machen, 84, a longtime West Texas and Panhandle resident, died January 9, 2022 at BSA Hospital in Amarillo with his daughter Vandi by his side. No services are scheduled at this time.
Deryl (Red) Machen, a 1955 graduate of Olton High School, was a proud member of the Olton, Texas community. Farming and ranching interests led Deryl to earn a degree in Agronomy from Texas Tech University in 1959. While in Olton High School, Deryl met Naomi Burrus. The couple married in 1957. They divorced in 1972. Deryl married Lois Faye Collier of Amarillo in 1990. He and Lois loved visiting Ruidoso, NM, to play golf, see the horse races, and enjoy the mountains.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Murrie and Marie Machen, who farmed and ranched in Olton, Texas for more than two decades.
Deryl is survived by their three children, Wade Machen (Melody) of Lubbock, TX, Van Donni (Vandi) Hodgson (Jeff) of Lawrence, KS and Ky Paul Machen of Elk City, OK; and his sister, Dr. Gayle Noll of Kingwood, TX.
Survivors also include Deryl’s five grandchildren, Micky Wade Machen of Plainview, TX, Whitney Taylor of Lawrence, KS, Joseph A. Taylor Jr. (Kristl) of Lawrence, KS, Cyrus Paul Hodgson of Lawrence, KS and Parker Evan Hodgson of Lawrence, KS; and four adored great-granddaughters, Joliauna, Jade, Isabelle, and Avlyn of Lawrence, KS.
