Don was born December 10, 1938 in Happy to Hiram and Odessa Painter. He married his sweet-heart Pat Painter in Amarillo on June 18, 1999. Growing up, Don helped his father run the Amarillo downtown bakery “Silver Grill” and paid his way through school. He had a long standing career as a sales rep. with Diamond Shamrock and also worked for Central Plains eventually becoming Vice President of sales. Don loved woodworking, and using his hands to create toys, furniture and other things for those he loved. One of his favorite hobbies was drag racing, and he enjoyed collecting cars too. Don owned several ‘57 Chevy’s and also had Corvettes. He was a member of the Corvette club where he served as editor for their magazine. Don’s family remembers him as a quiet and reserved person, always willing to lend a helping hand to those that needed him. He was very self-reliant and didn’t like to burden others.
