Don Michael Rhea, 77, of Amarillo, passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2022. Memorial services will be 10:00 AM Monday at Washington Ave. Christian Church, 3800 S. Washington St. with Pastor Jim Shelburne officiating.
Don was born August 20, 1945 in Clarendon, Texas to Max and Sara Rhea. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1963, and went on to attend Amarillo College. Don proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War; he was stationed in Germany. He married his wife Peggy on January 9, 1980 in Midland, Texas. He worked for SWB, later AT&T for 26 years. He then worked for AISD in communications for 19 years, retiring in 2010. Don and Peggy were active members at Washington Ave. Christian Church for many years, where they sang in church choir. They also sang with Amarillo Community Chorale since its conception. Don spent much of his time volunteering at the church with Snack Pak 4 Kids and the Family Service Center. He was also a mason.
Don was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Rhea; his son, Michael Rhea and wife Holly of Amarillo; his daughter, Melanie Maddox of Amarillo; two sisters, Kathy Bullard of Spring, TX, and Melissa Tague of Amarillo; five grandchildren, Ashleigh, MyKayla, Autumn, Sara, Rhiannon; and three great-grandchildren, Edwin, Maddox and Theodore.
