Doris Lee Harris, 86, of Amarillo, passed into the arms of Jesus on June 1, 2021 in Amarillo. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Friday June 4, 2021, at First Baptist Church Sanctuary, 1208 South Tyler St., with Dr. Howard Batson and Rev. Corky Holland officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00–5:00 PM Thursday June 2, 2021 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.
Doris was born on January 26, 1935 in Caldwell, Texas to Tola and Ruby Ryan. She attended Amarillo High School where she was captain of the Volleyball team. Soon she met her husband, Robert Harris on a double date and they married on May 29, 1954, in Amarillo at First Baptist Church. Doris and Robert just celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. Doris was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She spent her time making a home for her family and giving time to her church family. Doris was always available to her church, and very involved in meals for funerals and helping wherever she was needed. Doris also taught 5th grade Sunday school. She was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord. She has gained the ultimate reward in Heaven and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Joyce Coldiron and husband Dallas; one son-in-law, Dr. Robert Gulde; three nieces, Pat Coldiron and husband Dave, Charlotte Clark and Cynthia Ann Clark.
Survivors include her husband Robert Harris of the home, one son, Dale Harris and wife Charmaine; two daughters, Rebecca Gulde of Roanoke and Cheryl Woodard and her husband Mitch of Amarillo; 14 grandchildren; Cynthia Abell (Dave), Angela Taylor (Christopher), Christian Gulde (Whitney), Jonathan Gulde, Michael Gulde, Michele Cox (Cody), Robert Gulde (Cindy), Marjorie LaRochelle (Joe), Lauri Allen (Russ), Kortney Bowman (John), Kaylee Lodge, Alyssa Gizzarelli (Anthony), Courtney Holden (Devin) and Megan Woodard; 34 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to First Baptist Church, children’s division. Donations may be mailed to 1208 South Tyler St. Amarillo, TX 79101.
