Doris Herbel Obituary

Doris Anne “Caldwell” Herbel, 90, of Amarillo, passed away July 4, 2020. Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, July 25, 2020 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Deckard officiating.

Doris was born October 30, 1929, to H.T. and Marcia Caldwell in Coleman. She graduated from West Texas State University with her bachelors and masters in education. She taught elementary school for 31 years, spending most of her time with Amarillo and Hereford Independent School Districts. Doris was a faithful member of Polk Street United Methodist Church for around ten years. She loved crossword puzzles and was an avid writer. Doris especially enjoyed writing letters to several of her pen pals around the world and was a published poet. She had a deep love for music and enjoyed singing. Some of her favorite music came from the traditional church hymns. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Frank Caldwell; husband, Joe Rojek; one son, Tracy Rojek; husband Bill Herbel.

Survivors include one daughter, Lyndi McKown and husband Kenneth of Amarillo; one sister, Ginny Dickerson of Lubbock; two grandsons, Justin McKown and wife Ashley of McKinney, and Cameron McKown and wife Chylsea of Little Elm; two great grandchildren, Chloe McKown and Mackenzie McKown; two nieces, Cartha and Marci; three nephews, Gene, Rusty and Mark. Survivors also include a host of additional family and close friends.
