Elizabeth Imogene “Jean” Christy passed from this life on Sat. Oct 2. 2021 at the age of 96.
She was born to Opal & Cecil Rupert in Grayson, KY on July 7, 1925, one of five children. After graduation from high school & during WWII, she worked on the assembly line in Detroit on the Helldiver navy fighter planes. She was always proud of that. Following the war, she continued to work on a military base where she met a handsome young military man, Clayton “Chris” Christy. She & Chris married in 1947 & Chris’ military career took them all over the United States. Chris & Jean had four children together. Upon retirement from the military, they moved to the Amarillo area, where Chris began working in real estate & Jean was a homemaker and taught Sunday school at Paramount Baptist Church. A few years later Jean owned and operated a daycare in Canyon. She loved to be around children. Chris passed away in 1979. Jean was a happy person who loved to travel; she loved spending time with friends & she loved going to Angel Fire. But mostly, it can be said by all, she loved her family. What made her the happiest was having a visit from her four children, 7 grandchildren, & her 4 great-grandchildren. She was lovingly called “Grandmam”-
Jean’s final days were spent peacefully in Brenda Christy’s Care Cottage. The family would like to thank Brenda Christy & her staff for their loving care of Jean these last several weeks & a special thanks to Cheryl Cave for her care of Jean over the last few years. Thank you for your devotion to our loved one.
Jean is survived by a brother, Cecil Rupert, of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; four children David (Marilyn) of Huntsville, AL, Mark (Carolyn) of Amarillo, Gaye Cave (Joe) of Kingsland, Tx, John (Elizabeth) of Granbury, Tx; 7 grandchildren; Dilan Cave (Rachel), Kate Lovato (Seth), Sara Christy, Cutler Cave, Coltan Cave, Anna Christy & Clayton Christy; four great grandchildren Grace Lovato, Emmie Lovato, Sawyer Lovato & James Cave.
At the request of Jean, there will be a private memorial service for the family, and memorials may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
