Elizabeth Pride Obituary

Elizabeth “June” Pride, 89, of Amarillo, passed away on Monday, October 5, 2020. Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Saturday at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive with Dr. Howard Batson of First Baptist Church officiating. June was born June 14, 1931 in Hulbert, Oklahoma to Esther and Louie Gassaway, Sr. She graduated from high school in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. June grew up on a farm and was never afraid of hard work. She married Paul S. Pride on May 9, 1953 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage until Paul’s death in 2010. In her early marriage, June worked as a telephone operator. June stayed home following the birth of her second child, and dedicated her life to caring for her family. June was always very involved in church activities. She ran the nursery at Bell Ave. Baptist Church, and delivered Bibles to new mothers. She worked in the library at South Georgia Baptist Church. She served as president and group leader of the Ruth Sunday school class at First Baptist Church, as well as serving in Heritage Club and Women on Mission there. In her spare time, June loved being outside, especially working in her yard and fishing. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. June was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul S. Pride; two sisters, Cleona McNeil and Wanda Morris; and a brother, J.W. Gassaway. Survivors include a son, Paul Wayne Pride of Amarillo; a daughter, Cynthia June Pride Dowell and husband Randy of Amarillo; a brother, Louie V. Gassaway, Jr. and wife Nancy of Muskogee, OK; four grandchildren, Amy Farmer, Dana Smith, D’Neesa Byars, and Andy Dowell; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
