Ellen Cunningham Obituary

Ellen Cunningham, 95, of Amarillo, passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2021. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive, with Pastor Scott Higginbotham of Temple Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Ellen was born March 7, 1926 in Grimes, Oklahoma to Jim and Nellie Blanscet. One of seven children, she grew up in Grimes and Reydon, Oklahoma. As a young woman, Ellen was introduced to Raymond Cunningham by her cousin. They dated for two years before they married on August 6, 1942. Ellen was an excellent homemaker and kept an immaculate home. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed ironing everything! One of her favorite pastimes was going camping in the RV with her family. While raising her family, Ellen worked for AISD in school cafeterias. She also worked for Coleman Manufacturing for ten years. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She spent her time making a home for her family and giving time to her church family. She was a longtime member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. More than anything, Ellen loved Jesus! She spent countless hours reading her Bible, and lived her life as a demonstration of Christ’s love. It was very important to Ellen that everyone know the plan of salvation. She would love to know if you are reading this and feel called to do so, that you would reach out to your pastor.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond Cunningham; her son, Roger Cunningham; two grandsons, Scott Jones and Jason Grant; four brothers, Elmer Lloyd Blanscet, Marshall Blanscet, Paul Blanscet, and Thomas Blanscet; a sister, Juanita Pena; and a son-in-law, Gene Jones.

Survivors include a son, Bobby Cunningham and wife Penny of Amarillo; two daughters, Dianne Grant and Eileen Jones both of Amarillo; a sister, Madge Duke of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Greg Grant and wife Michelle of Frisco, TX, Stacy Grant and fiancé John Perkins, Sheri Marshall and husband Fred, and Dwayne Cunningham and wife Trish all of Amarillo; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials may be made in support of the campaign for a new van for the Amarillo-Panhandle Humane Society, PO Box 30102, Amarillo, Texas 79120.
