Estelle Parrish Obituary

Estelle Parrish of Amarillo, Texas, formerly of Shamrock, Texas, passed away at 103 after a very long full life. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 PM on Saturday January 22, 2022 at the Shamrock Cemetery in Shamrock, TX. The family will be accepting friends from 12:30-1:45 PM at the Shamrock Church of Christ at 107 W Laville Street. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.

She was born in Shamrock, Texas, in 1918 during the flu epidemic. She lived in Shamrock most of her life. She started working at a café at the age of 12. She was a manager at JC Penney, and a bookkeeper at a steam laundry facility in Shamrock. After graduation from high school at 17, she eloped to Sayre, Oklahoma where she married Joel Parrish on July 11, 1936. They were married sixty years until his passing. After Joel’s death, she began to travel throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. She loved to read, garden, bake, sew and have new adventures.

They had two daughters, Ramah and Alice. She taught them to be strong independent women.  From teaching them to drive, change a flat tire, and making sure they had money to take care of themselves.  Her daughters remember sitting on the red stool in the kitchen listening and learning. Sometimes the truth was hard to take, but it was always given with love. She was a loving grandmother to her three grandchildren and four great grandchildren, who fondly remember the chocolate chip cookies.

She attended Business School in Oklahoma City while Joel was overseas during World War II. She was President of the PTA, a Girl Scout leader and a Pink Lady at the hospital. She taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and Ladies Bible study. She was an active member of the Shamrock Church of Christ.

Estelle lived at Moore Assisted Living for 11 years, where she enjoyed bingo, playing games and doing crafts. The family thanks the wonderful staff of Moore for their very loving care, and BSA Hospice of the Southwest for their care in her final days.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thornton and Ramah Dickey; son-in-law Jack Row; daughter Alice Hutson; and her loving husband of 60 years Joel Parrish.

Survivors include her daughter Ramah Row; three grandchildren Brandi Fuller and husband Rick of Mustang, OK; Justin Hutson and wife Christina of Stillwater, OK; Brian Row and wife Jolene of Amarillo; four great-grandchildren Coby, Kayla, Jayla, Hutson all of Stillwater, OK and Wyatt Smith of Mustang, OK; one son-in-law Charles Hutson of Mustang, OK.

Memorials may be made to Shamrock Church of Christ.
