Evelyn “Memaw” Marie Potter, 92, of Amarillo, passed away on Monday, April 12, 2021. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Friday, April 16, 2021, at the Hillside Christian Church Chapel, 6100 S. Soncy Road. Burial will be at Llano East Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Wednesday, April 14, at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.
Evelyn was born September 16, 1928, in Tulsa, OK, to Clyde and Ruth Dampf. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1949 and attended West Texas State University. Evelyn married Walter Ashworth in 1952, and they had four daughters and a son. After divorce, Evelyn committed to raising all five children as a single mother. She worked as a clerk typist for the Amarillo Police Department for nine years and was also the secretary for the Amarillo Police Officer’s Association for many years. She married Joe Potter in 1982. Known to the family as “Memaw,” Evelyn thought of her family as her greatest blessing, and she considered herself the wealthiest woman in the world because of them. She adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They are at peace knowing that she is now with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Ruth Dampf; her husband, Joe Potter; and her sister, Bonnie Dampf.
Survivors include her brother, Beverly Dampf and wife Beverly; four daughters, Teresa Bourland and husband Larry, Sherry Coleman, Tina Davis and husband Steve, and Tonia Hittson and husband Jack; a son, Clyde Allen Ashworth and wife Paula; 17 grandchildren, Christopher Bourland and wife Christie, Anthony Bourland, Celeste Powell and husband Bobby, Amanda Bourland, Christina Murphy, Justina Murphy, Jessica Knoles and husband Charles, Jamie Ashworth and fiancé Russell, Laura Srithavoravong and husband Phong, Tammy Potter, Lisa Davina and husband Joe, Dale Potter and wife Veronica, Eric Davis and wife Carla, Lacy Trammell and husband Calvin, Cory Huddleston and wife Sharon, Jason Huddleston and wife Rachel, and Codi Hittson; and 20 great-grandchildren; and nephews and nieces.
