Fernando Salazar, 85, of Amarillo, passed away Monday, October 12, 2020. No services are scheduled at this time.
Fernando was born October 18, 1934 in Amarillo to Leopaldo and Frances Salazar. He attended Amarillo High School in downtown Amarillo and joined the United States Marines just out of school. Fernando spent fifty wonderful years with his wife Alberta before she passed away in 2019. He worked as an Equipment Operator for most of his life, but never stopped working with his hands. Fernando was a hard worker, always willing to fix what needed fixing. He enjoyed the slot machines during his free time and going to garage sales with his family. Fernando loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them. He is remembered as a man with a hard shell on the outside but a heart of gold on the inside; Fernando will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Wife, Alberta Salazar; two daughters, Carmen and Kathy; one son, Henry; one brother Charlie Salazar; one sister, Rose Mary Telles; one daughter in law, Adela Aguillar; two granddaughters.
Survivors include four daughters, Frances Salazar Potts and husband Joseph of Amarillo, Tina Cortez of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Patsy Galan and husband Ceasar and Isabelle Valverde and husband Cristabol both of Amarillo; one son, Tony Aguillar of Albuquerque, New Mexico; “his boys”, Tristin, Aiden and JoJo; one sister, Angie Carrasco; five brothers, Johnny Salazar, Franky Salazar, Christian Salazar, Ray Salazar and Thomas “Tommy” Salazar; 17 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
