Fred D. Strickland, 77, of Amarillo, passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2021. Memorial services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive with Chaplain Ira Purdy officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
Fred was born August 4, 1943 in Quinlan, Texas to Beadie and Hazel Strickland. He graduated from Terrell High School, before proudly serving in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1962-1966. He married Judy Morrison on November 21, 1967 in Terrell, Texas. They moved to Amarillo from Fritch in 1977. Fred worked for Pantex two different times. Between those two stints, he owned and operated Strickland Electric. Fred retired from the Pantex Plant. In his spare time, he was an avid fisherman and loved the outdoors. He enjoyed gardening and riding his tractors which he shared with the neighborhood. He was a woodworker, and spent a lot of time cutting trees for firewood with his brother.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Judy Strickland; and his brother, Kenneth Strickland.
Survivors include a son, Corey Strickland and wife Amy of Canyon; a daughter, Lori Landrum and husband Ben of Kingston, OK; a brother, Vernon Strickland of Wills Point, TX; seven grandchildren, Ian Cox and wife Skylar, Katherine Cox and partner Alex Tatum, Lankin Landrum and wife Brittany, Logan Landrum and wife Kirsten, Abigail Carrasco and husband Taylor, Macy Gibson and husband Nicholas, and Dylan Strickland and fiancée, Chloe McCown; and eight great-grandchildren.
