Fred A. Yelton, 74, of Amarillo, passed away on Sunday September 3, 2023. Memorial services will be September 9, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive with Dr. Buddy Young officiating.
Fred was born on October 1, 1948 to Edgar L. “Chunk” and Marie Yelton. He was born and raised in Amarillo, Texas where he graduated from Palo Duro High School. Fred proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1968-1970. He went on to receive the National Defense Service Metal, for which he was greatly proud of. Fred eventually met and fell in love with “his main squeeze” Nita, and together they spent over 40 together before his passing.
Fred loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren. He took great enjoyment from being with them and supporting their hobbies, sports, and goals. Fred loved to spend time working on old cars and trucks. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Fred is preceded in death by his parents, and one brother-in-law, Bob Taylor.
Survivors include his wife Nita, of the home; daughters, Tamara Packard and husband Ray of Amarillo; Sonia Luna and husband Joe of Anahuac; son Andrew (Sandy) Sanchez and wife Dianna of Amarillo; sister Shirley Taylor of Amarillo; brother Eddie Yelton and wife Darlene of Claude; brother Charles Gene Yelton and wife Lou of Amarillo; grandchildren Joey Luna and wife Julia of Anahuac; Jamie Luna of Anahuac; Andrew Sanchez and partner LeeAnne Bullard from Fritch; five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as his beloved fur baby Gracie “Chubby Butt”.
