Gary Lynn Fjetland, 69, of Amarillo passed away Sunday, November 8, 2020. Graveside services will be held at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Wellington, Texas at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 with Noah Downing officiating. Gary is available for viewing Tuesday, November 10, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Cox Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Dr. in Amarillo.
Gary was born December 15, 1950 to Darold and Ardeen Fjetland in Riceville, Iowa. He attended Caprock High School in Amarillo. Gary served the United States proudly in the U.S. Army and spent most his life in the Amarillo community. He married Rhonda Hernandez in Clayton, New Mexico in 1994. Gary was employed with the United State Postal Service for 36 years in the maintenance field. He was known as a hard worker and a “heck of a handyman”. Gary was considered by friends as an overall good guy, who on occasion enjoyed an adult beverage. His family stated he was a good husband, good father and a good grandfather. Gary loved his family.
Gary is survived by his wife, Rhonda, of the home: sons, Cole Fjetland and Jerrico Fjetland, both of Amarillo; daughters, Crystal Hisel of Amarillo and Terri Couch of Canyon; brothers, Michael Fjetland and Margie Townsend of Clear Lake, Texas, Steve Fjetland and wife Kathy of Katy, Texas, Dennis Hansen and wife Kathy of Mason City, Iowa, Eric Hansen and wife Lori of Garner, Iowa, David Strommen and wife Anita of Salina, Kansas; sisters, Rose Walker and husband Russ of Mason City, Iowa, Linda Myers of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Diane Rose and husband Rick of Amarillo, and Kathy Montgomery and husband Tom of Forest City, Iowa; 17 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents, brother Rodney Hansen and brother-in-law Cecil Myers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any charitable contribution be made to Heal the City, 609 S. Carolina, Amarillo, Texas, 79106
