Glenda Rhea (Richardson) Gaines

Glenda Rhea Gaines, 86, of Amarillo passed away October 1, 2023 surrounded by her loved ones. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Thursday October 5,2023 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive, with Chaplain Danny Logan officiating. Graveside service will be at 2:30 PM Thursday October 5, 2023 at Wheeler Cemetery in Wheeler, TX. The family will be accepting friends at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 PM on Wednesday October 4, 2023. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.

Glenda was born on October 22, 1936 in Wheeler, TX to George and Vena Richardson. She graduated from Wheeler High School. Glenda married the love of her life, James Gaines on June 17, 1955 at the First Baptist Church in Wheeler. Together they shared 3 beautiful children and 68 years of marriage. She was a master seamstress, she loved to make elaborate quilts. Glenda enjoyed all sports, she was an avid Texas Ranger fan. She was the official score keeper for all of her children’s baseball games. Glenda enjoyed the great outdoors, camping, and fishing. She loved to cook for her family, from having big fish fry’s to smoking some ribs, and her famous fried quail with biscuits and gravy. Glenda was dearly loved and will be missed by many.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Kenda Simms; her sister, Connie Taylor; her brother Kenneth Richardson.

Survivors include her husband, James of the home; her two sons, David Gaines (Stephanie) of Amarillo; Donald Gaines (Debra) of Amarillo; her sister Sandra Crowder of Chickasha, OK; her five grandchildren, Scott Gaines (Ashley); Jason Simms (Jennifer); Marcie Browning (Chris); Brad Simms (Cassie); Braxton Gaines (Kori); 11 great-grandchildren. Survivors also include a host of other family members and dear friends.
