Irma Phyllis Cockrell, 83, of Amarillo, passed into the arms of Jesus on Monday, January 4, 2021. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday January 9, 2021 at South Georgia Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Llano Cemetery. Irma will be available for viewing on Thursday, January 7, 2021 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Friday, January 8 from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
Irma was born in Amarillo on June 10, 1937 to Clarence and Ollie Johnson. Irma was a faithful member of South Georgia Baptist Church and loved Jesus. Her desire to walk close to the Lord was one of her most important legacies. She loved the 139th chapter of Psalms and had most of it memorized. Irma would recite it with loving passion for the Lord. Music had always been a love of hers. She sang in church from a young age with her sisters and then with her daughters and also in choir at South Georgia Baptist with her daughter-in- law, Susan.
Irma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bobby Cockrell; one daughter, Kira Windsor.
Survivors include two sons, Britt Cockrell and his wife Susan and Kirk Cockrell both of Amarillo; one daughter, Gail Bush and husband Jay of Bentonville, Arkansas; eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to South Georgia Baptist Church, 5209 S. Georgia Street, Amarillo, TX 79110.
