Jack “Tray” Downer, III, 34, of Amarillo, passed away Friday, March 13, 2020, surrounded by his family and friends. Memorial services will be 7:00 pm Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at Saint John Greek Orthodox Church in Amarillo. Private Graveside services will be held Wednesday afternoon. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.
Tray was born December 20, 1985, to Londa Jean and Jack Thomas Downer Jr. His mother reflects back on the tragic automobile accident of his father, in his infant years. His grandmother Marilyn played a significant role in supporting him and his mother during that time. Tray grew up in Panhandle, and he was a protector to his brothers. He always wanted them to feel safe. Tray led his brothers by example with many things including unconditional love, passion for music and wisdom. Tray remained close to his family throughout his teen years, and grew into a young man with great love for his mother, grandmother, Nanny, Papa, and those surrounding him. He was a self-taught musician, and could play many instruments including the guitar and piano. He played in his high school marching band as well. Tray's family remembers him as a musical genius. Tray fought hard for his identity, but found it in his love for music. He was an incredibly talented songwriter. Tray married his high school sweetheart, Heather, on March 19, 2010. Tray grew into a man that loved others, and never met a stranger. He was an astute salesman and continued with his music into his adult years. Tray adored his children. He remained very close to his brothers throughout his life.
Tray was preceded in death by his grandfather Larry Crump “Papa”.
Survivors include his daughter, Emmalynn Trace Downer; his son, Jack Thomas Downer, IX; the mother of his children, Heather Downer; his mother, Londa Jean; two brothers, Tyler and Wesley; one sister, Destiny; his father, Jack Thomas Downer Jr.; his step-father, Larry Crump Jr.; his grandmother, Marilyn Reed “Grandma”; and his grandmother, Dolores Crump “Nanny”; one aunt, Charla Crump "Sissy"; his step-mom, Shethelia Russell. Survivors also include a host of additional family and friends.
