James Floyd Long
January 21, 1937 ~ December 25, 2023 (age 86) 86 Years Old
James Floyd Long, 86, of Amarillo passed away on December 25, 2023. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday December 30, 2023 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive with G.A. Roach officiating. The family will be accepting friends at the funeral home from 5:00-7:00 PM Friday December 29, 2023. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.
James was born on January 21, 1937 in Crawford, Oklahoma to Alfred and Nellie Long. He proudly served his country in The United States Army. James enjoyed a full life. Most of all he loved to spend time with family playing games, cards and dominos. James loved to fish, hunt, dance and telling jokes. He made many people laugh and smile. James loved to travel and go on adventures.
Let us remember his fun-loving spirit. He was a mentor to many. James was capable of performing any repairs or task required to live in a rural area. He worked for LA Fuller Construction for his adult life and retired “several times”. James was in his 70s when he found out he loved crab legs, boy he sure could put them away.
James was an extremely lucky man to find love three times in his life. His first wife, Maxene, she was his high school sweetheart and the mother of his daughter. He met his third wife Dora Beard at the singles dance club. They soon married and her family fell in love with him and are thankful and blessed to have had him in their lives.
As we celebrate James life, let us remember his fun-loving spirit. May his memory inspire us to joke, dance and to laugh.
May he find eternal peace with his Lord and may his memory continue to shine brightly in the hearts of the people who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Carl Long; his first wife, Maxene; his second wife, Billie.
Survivors include his wife Dora Long, of the home; his daughter, Rhonda Glover of Claude, TX; his grandson, Kevyn Kelley (Donye) of Amarillo, TX; his sister, Barbara Milligan of Oklahoma; his three step- children, Pam Brito (Danny); Mike Beard; Billy Beard all from Amarillo, TX; his 7 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren. Survivors also include a host of extended family members and dear friends.
