James L. “Jim” Robinson, 79, of Amarillo, passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2021. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive, with Chaplain Larry Batchlear officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of John and Janea Robinson between 6:00 and 8:00 PM on Tuesday.
Jim was born June 24, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois. His parents were John and Betty Robinson. He graduated from high school in Schoolcraft, Michigan and attended college at Ferris State College in Big Rapids, Michigan. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy. Jim married Sue Hayward on May 26, 1972 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He moved to Texas in the early 1960’s. He worked as a truck driver in his early years. He then worked as a telephone plant engineer for 25 years. Jim was a longtime member of the Moose Lodge, and served as secretary and governor of the lodge during that time. He was also a member of the American Legion. He and Sue enjoyed traveling together. Jim is remembered as having a great smile. He was a huge Astros and NASCAR fan. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Robinson; and a brother, Karl Butler.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Robinson; two daughters, Tina Robinson of Amarillo and Wendy Moran of Eatonville, WA; a son, John Robinson and wife Janea of Amarillo; three sisters, Nancy Woodruff and husband Nelson of Mosinee, WI, Cathy Rose of Saint Albans, VT, and Nancy Scharsich of Brevard, NC; and five grandchildren, Thomas Roark, Cody Roark, Peyton Robinson, Taylor Robinson, and Gage Robinson.
