James (Jim) Stanley Howell, aged 78, formerly of Pampa, passed away in Amarillo, Texas, on August 18, 2020 after a valiant cancer battle. Born in Post, Texas, on March 6, 1942, to Horton and Evelyn (Meekma) Howell. He attended school in Lockney, Texas and graduated in 1960. He attended Texas Tech and Lipperts Business School. Jim worked part of his life in sales, at the appraisal district, in real estate and in the title insurance business.
On December 14, 1962 Jim married Merilyn Loter in Plainview, Texas. They were married 57 years. They lived in several cities in the Texas Panhandle but mainly in Plainview, Pampa and Amarillo. He and Merilyn liked to travel and Jim loved playing the one armed bandit. Jim enjoyed taking naps while “watching” golf and enjoyed tinkering in his shop and working in his yard.
Jim was preceded in death by his father and brother David Horton Howell Jr.
He is survived by his mother, Evelyn who is 100 years young, his wife Merilyn Howell of Amarillo, daughter Amy Chapman and her husband Paul of Keller; son Lance Howell and wife Cindy of Amarillo: one sister Carol Smith and husband Greg of Red Oak; brother Ken Howell of San Angelo; sister in law Eloise Dowlen of Amarillo, sister in law Wetia Loter of Pampa; brother in law Lonnie Loter and wife Ann of Pampa; long-time family friends John Sewell and late wife Ella and their daughter Shelly McKee all of Borger; As well as, many other special friends and several beloved nieces and nephews; five grandchildren – Ethan Chapman, Bethany Chapman, Haylie Berg, Tyler Berg and Mackenzie Howell.

A celebration of life service will be Saturday, August 22, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Cox Rowley Funeral Home in Amarillo. Masks are required to attend the service.
