Jimmie Riley Walling Jr., of Amarillo passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2021. Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, September 27, 2021 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home Chapel, 4180 Canyon Drive. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.
Jimmie was born June, 22, 1948, in Plainview to Jimmie Sr. and Nellie Walling. He graduated from Plainview High School. Jimmie later graduated from Wayland Baptist University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology.
Jimmie worked on the farm until he enlisted in the Army. He proudly served in The United States Army as a Staff Sargent. He trained as an Infantry Ranger in Panama and was in the Bridge Unit in Germany. He also went to Vietnam.
Jimmie was awarded with three Purple Hearts, two Bronze Stars, one Silver Star, and two Army Commendation metals. Jimmie was an avid Texas Rangers fan. He loved the great outdoors, and enjoyed fishing. Jimmie also enjoyed traveling, and traveled around the world twice.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Dorothy Cecil.
Survivors include two half-brothers; Charles Henderson and wife Flo of Borger and J.B. Henderson and his wife Carol of Huntsville; one nephew, Rowdy Boggs of Amarillo and a host of additional family members.
The family suggests memorials may be made to BSA Hospice of the Southwest or Texas War Memorial.
