The family will receive friends and loved ones for visitation from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2019 at Cox Funeral Home. Jimmy was born April 11,1945 in Amarillo to Herman and Inez Hill. Jim spent his early childhood years in McLean, Texas and moved to Amarillo in 1953. He attended Forest Hill Elementary, Horace Mann Junior High and graduated from Palo Duro High in 1964. Jim went to work in the cement industry immediately after high school and this is where he acquired his welding skills and discovered he was a natural mechanic. He went into The IBEW Electrical Apprentice Program in the late 60’s and shortly afterward became a Journeyman Electrician. Jim worked as an electrician until he retired in 2007. He was a master mechanic and could do anything with his hands. He was always willing to drop what he was doing to help his friends and family. Jim loved his three boys, Ronnie, Jimmy and Jason and his 9 grandkids with a passion. He was an unselfish uncle and friend to both Allen and Barry Hill. Jim was loved by all The Hill, Mooring and Patterson clans. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Herman “Short” Carliss and Jewell “Inez” Hill and a grandson, Jimmy Carliss Hill II. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the nursing staff at BSA Hospital and give a special thanks to Mike Nugent, Kit Fowler and Steve Stevens for their dedicated care and friendship to Jim in his time of need.
