John Murphy, 77, of Amarillo, passed into the arms of Jesus on March 21, 2021 in Amarillo. Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, March 25, at Cox-Rowley Funeral home, 4180 Canyon drive, with Pastor Kyle Wilkinson officiating. John was born on November 2, 1943 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Gerard Murphy and Ruth Gardner. He loved his country and served in the United States Navy; John was a Vietnam veteran. John was a truck driver for most of his career and would later work for Walmart before retirement. He was a devoted Christian who loved Jesus and was devoted to preaching His Word. John enjoyed music and played the guitar and bass. He will be remembered as the kind of man who always gave to others without a question of what he was getting back in return. John especially loved volunteering for BSA Hospice of the Southwest. He was a wonderful Poppa and a sacrificial friend to all who knew him. He will be missed by many.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Debbie Murphy; father, Gerard Murphy; Mother and Step father, Ruth and Edwin Burnett; one brother, Michael Murphy.
Survivors include his two daughters, Kim Hampton and husband Chris and Trisha Davis and husband Jared, both of Amarillo; one brother, Gerard Murphy and wife Traci of Mineral Wells; a grandson, John Murphy and granddaughter, Gage Davis. Survivors also include a host of additional family and close friends.
