Johnny Evans Obituary

Johnny Carl Evans, 74, of Amarillo, passed into the arms of his Savior on June 10, 2021. He was in the company of his wife and two of his daughters and the love of his other children as he was reunited with his beloved son Henry in the presence of their loving Savior. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Saturday at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Sunday at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Travis Bennett of Saint Stephen United Methodist Church officiating.

Johnny was a true renaissance man who loved learning and experiencing life to its fullest. He quickly became an expert in any field that attracted his attention, from woodworking to trains and ghost towns, to even teaching himself Morse code. Johnny ran straight into life, never shying away from a challenge or any task no matter how difficult. Even with all his knowledge, anyone who knew Johnny for any length of time knew his greatest joy was his relationship with his Savior followed closely by his marriage to Sarah. Johnny and Sarah were married on September 7, 1968, in Lubbock Texas. The love and respect they shared continued to grow throughout the years as they became an inseparable pair who raised six children and found great joy in each other. Johnny will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but his family rests securely in the knowledge that one day they will be reunited with him in glory. It is his family’s prayer that all who knew Johnny would also have this same assurance, and will one day be raised to glory with their friends and family in heaven.

Johnny leaves behind a legacy of strength, compassion, and love that will continue with his wife Sarah Evans; his four daughters, Hanna LaFountain of Denver, Judy Anne Fagan of Warrensburg, MO, Cathy Thompson and husband Edwin of San Antonio, TX, and Tammy Evans of Amarillo; one son, Joseph Fly of Lubbock; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
