Joyce Ann McKinney, 90, of Amarillo, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2021 in Amarillo, TX. She will be laid to rest at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico at a private service.
Joyce was born August 13, 1930 in Tulia, TX to Lewis and Bonnie “Lois” Riley. She graduated from Tulia High School in 1947 and pursued a nursing degree, where she graduated from St. Anthony’s school of Nursing in May 1950. Joyce married the love of her life, Dan “Lee” McKinney, on October 18, 1953. They spent 67 wonderful years together. Joyce was very passionate when it came to her calling of being a nurse. She was the Clovis High School nurse from 1968-1992. Joyce served as the Nursing coordinator for the district. She enjoyed traveling with the band, cheerleaders and drill team on trips. Joyce loved her students! She loved spending time with all kids. Joyce also enjoyed traveling. She had the opportunity to travel to Hawaii, Spain, China and South Korea. Joyce cherished the time she got to spend with her family and grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was an avid reader. Joyce was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clovis, New Mexico.

Joyce is survived by her husband Dan “Lee” McKinney; two daughters, Leesa Detten and husband Tommy, Paula Villarreal and husband Oscar; two grandchildren, Hailee Detten and Tate Detten; two great-grandchildren, Rylee Detten-Ramos and Elliott Detten. All of who reside in Amarillo Texas. She also leaves behind many loved family and friends.
