Kirby Callaway of Amarillo went home to be with the Lord on November 14, 2021. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 19, 2021 at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home 4180 Canyon Drive. Arrangements are under the direction of Cox-Rowley Funeral Home.
Kirby was born in Canadian, Texas, on February 13, 1951. He graduated from Tascosa High School in 1969 and attended West Texas State University, although he remained a lifelong fan of the Texas Longhorns. Over the course of his professional life, he had the opportunity to work in many different fields, but his diligence and integrity were always unmistakable, and his coworkers deeply appreciated his sense of camaraderie and his steadfast determination to exceed expectations.
On October 20, 1983, he married the love of his life, Teresa, with whom he spent thirty-eight joy-filled years. His children brought him immense pride, and they all felt deep love and admiration for him in return. Once he became a grandfather—or “Papa”, as he preferred to be called—he always made time to play with the newest members of his growing family and attended countless performances and sporting events to cheer them on.
Kirby was a devout Christian and was extremely well versed in the Bible. He enjoyed reading, watching football, and spending time with his family. He was funny, charming, and made everyone feel at ease. His family members will remember how much he made them laugh and how much he cared about them.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Dallas and Willie Callaway.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa Callaway; his daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Jeff Worsham of Amarillo and their children Luke, Elizabeth and William; his son and daughter-in-law Blaine and Carrie Callaway of Dallas and their children, Ryder and Reid Pyle; his son John Hunter Callaway of Amarillo; his son Jason Callaway of Amarillo; two sisters: DeAnn Krakos and husband Jeff of Granbury, Texas, and Jana Newkirk and husband Calvin of Northlake, Texas; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and close friends.
