Loraine Lewis “Lew” Woodard, 83, of Amarillo, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2023. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Friday at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
Lew was born April 6, 1940 in Leedey, Oklahoma to George and Corda Woodard. He graduated from Perryton High School. He married the love of his life, Glenda Thompson on August 6, 1961 in Booker, Texas. Together, they raised three children. Lew farmed in the early part of his life. He and Glenda moved to Amarillo from Arnett, Oklahoma in 1988. Lew worked for Central Plains Center in maintenance and landscaping. In his spare time, he enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting. After retirement, Lew was a crossing guard for AISD. He really loved getting to know all the kids. Lew was a practical joker and had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed playing cards and was an avid OU football fan. He was a real people person and truly had a heart for people. He was a story teller and never met a stranger. Lew treated his in-laws like his own. He was a true patriot to his core; he loved his country. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Glenda Woodard; and a brother, Calvin Woodard.
Survivors include a daughter, Teena Woodard Cornett and husband Rick of Enid, OK; two sons, Gregg Woodard and wife Judy of Amarillo, and Mark Woodard and wife Shann of Gilmer, TX; two sisters, Wynona Conner of Duncan, OK, and Judy McNabb and husband Ken of Plano, TX; seven grandchildren, Brady Cornett and wife Christi, Kirsten Engebretson and husband Brandon, Sagan Cornett, Lauren Reyna and husband Matt, Aaron Woodard, Madalyn Woodard and Macie Woodard; and five great-grandchildren, Austin, Sutton, August, Merritt and Baker; and his special friend, Mozell Matlock.
