Michael Raburn Obituary

The world is less colorful as Michael Raburn is heaven bound to receive his well deserved reward. An artist with outstanding creative ability, he left behind samples of his creative genius in his paintings, monoprints, and the fine art prints he produced for numerous other artists. Michael was a loving husband, caring father, and passionate friend who was loved by all who knew him.

Michael was born in McAlester, Oklahoma on December 29, 1951. His parents, Ted and Mary Jo, brother Randy  and sister Susan (Williams) moved frequently due to his dad's job with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. He lived in many towns in Oklahoma, as well as in St. Louis, Missouri. After moving to Topeka, Kansas he met the love of his life and future wife, Sandra (Sandy) Filby. Michael and Sandy dated through high school and their first year of college and were married on June 26, 1971.

Michael completed college in Emporia, Kansas and moved to the Phoenix, Arizona area where he opened a fine arts printing business. During the next 45 years, Michael created hundreds of paintings, fine arts prints, and monotypes of his own work, as well as of many other artists while living in the Phoenix area and later after he moved to Amarillo, Texas.

His artistic work can be seen throughout the United States. But the creations he was most proud of were his sons, Bradley, Jared, and Nicholas. He loved being a father and enjoyed watching his boys follow their own dreams and passions. He also had an additional joy of being Grandad to his granddaughter, Mary Ellen. Throughout the years, Michael became friend, mentor, and surrogate dad to many others.

Everyone who knew him loved him and his caring ways. This world is a better place because of Michael's presence and the lives he touched were all encouraged and strengthen.  He left us on September 11,  2021, which was much too soon. We know that we will be with him again one day in heaven. What a glorious day that will be!
